David W. Joncas / Managing Director
David brings more than 20 years of experience and a distinguished M&A track record to Aeris Partners. He has extensive experience advising SaaS, application and infrastructure software, business information, and technology-enabled services companies and is particularly focused on high growth industry sectors, including healthcare (HCIT), architecture, engineering & construction (AEC), education, transportation, financial services (FinTech), energy, legal and government IT. David has advised leading private equity, venture capital, publicly traded and founder-owned technology companies on domestic and cross-border strategic M&A, leveraged buyouts and growth equity recapitalizations.
Representative transactions include the sale of iSqFt and BidClerk to Genstar Capital; the sale of On Center Software to Roper Technologies; the sale of Manatron to Thomson Reuters; the sale of GatewayEDI to TriZetto; the sale of HealthMedia to Johnson & Johnson; the sale of MedData to TransUnion; the sale of Aderant to Vista Equity; the sale of Mantas to Oracle (i-flex); and the sale of JBoss to Red Hat.
Before Aeris Partners, David was recruited to launch and build the technology practice at Harris Williams & Co., where he served as Managing Director and Co-Head of technology investment banking and was appointed to the firm’s Executive Committee. Previously, he was a Senior Vice President with Broadview International (later Jefferies Broadview) and a Manager with Accenture’s PeopleSoft practice. David also co-founded and completed a 4,100 mile cross-country bicycling and fundraising event in support of cancer research, education and prevention and was recognized as a “40 under 40” investment banking professional by Investment Dealers’ Digest (IDD) in 2006.
David received an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, as an Austin Scholar, and a BA in Economics/Accounting from the College of the Holy Cross.
David is an avid cyclist and skier and enjoys coaching youth soccer.
Stephen J. O’Leary / Managing Director
Steve brings more than 25 years of technology M&A and venture capital experience to Aeris Partners. He has substantial experience working with application and infrastructure software, analytical software, business information and digital media companies. He has extensive experience advising public companies on domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, including special committee advisory and going-private transactions. He also serves as a trustee and member of the executive committee of the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council and served as Chairman in 2009 and 2010.
Before Aeris Partners, Steve served as Senior Managing Director, Co-Head of Technology Investment Banking and head of the Boston (Waltham) office of Broadview International (later Jefferies Broadview). During his 19-year tenure with Broadview he also served on the Board of Directors of Broadview International and its affiliate venture capital fund, Kennet Partners. Immediately prior to Aeris Partners, he served as an entrepreneur in residence at General Catalyst Partners. Earlier in his career he was a venture capitalist at BancBoston Ventures and served as a United States Navy lieutenant on board fast-attack nuclear submarines.
Steve received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS in Mathematics (with Distinction) from the U.S. Naval Academy.
Steve has run several marathons, including the 2009 Boston Marathon. He enjoys coaching youth ice hockey.
Derek M. Swaim / Managing Director
Derek brings over 18 years of global M&A advisory and growth equity experience to Aeris Partners. He has extensive expertise advising SaaS, application and enterprise software, technology-enabled services, and internet & digital media companies in high growth industry verticals including financial (FinTech), healthcare, legal, energy and power, communications, and e-commerce.
Before Aeris Partners, Derek spent 10 years with Harris Williams & Co., where he was a Director with the Technology M&A practice. Previously, Derek worked with the M&A groups of Goldman Sachs, Broadview International and Berkshire Capital. Derek was also a Board Member of the Boston Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth, where he started and ran the MBA M&A Case Study Competition for leading MBA programs.
Derek received an MBA from Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business Administration and an AB in Economics from Harvard University, where he earned the John Harvard Honorary Scholarship. While at Harvard, Derek played varsity soccer, where his team qualified for the NCAA Division I tournament twice, and he received All-Ivy recognition.
Derek enjoys playing and coaching soccer and hockey and is an avid golfer and skier.
Rahul Swani / Principal
Rahul joined Aeris Partners with 12 years of technology M&A and consulting experience spanning numerous high growth industry sectors, including data and analytics, SaaS, software, healthcare information technology (HCIT) and digital media. Rahul has extensive experience advising private equity, venture capital and founder-owned companies on a range of strategic M&A, divestiture and private placement transactions.
Before joining Aeris Partners, Rahul was a Vice President with the technology M&A practice at Harris Williams & Co., where he helped build the group and established its efforts in data and analytics. Previously, Rahul served as a Senior Consultant with Investor Group Services (IGS), where he provided strategic and market diligence advisory services to companies serving a broad range of industries, including technology and healthcare. He also worked as an Analyst with the Alternative Asset Fund of W.R. Huff & Co., and as an environmental economic policy research analyst.
Rahul received an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a B.A. in Economics and Environmental Studies from Tufts University.
Rahul is an avid traveler, skier and ‘foodie’.
